Handyman & small repairs

Handyman services for household and small commercial repairs in Surrey

A handyman visit is for the jobs that are awkward to leave and too small to justify a full refurbishment: a shelf, a door that will not latch, a cupboard hinge, or a short list of fittings before a tenancy ends. Redhill and Reigate are the commercial focus. Other Surrey towns, including Caterham, are not published as covered areas until the postcode and the job have been accepted.

What we can help with

Handyman & small repairs: the jobs we take on

This is not a licence for electrical, gas or plumbing work. Those trades stay on their own pages and have to be done by someone competent for that work. If the job turns out to be one of them, that is what we will say.

  • Shelving and wall-mounted fittings
  • Furniture assembly
  • Minor door and cupboard repairs
  • Handles, hinges and other ironmongery
  • Curtain poles, blinds and similar fixtures
  • Minor timber repairs
  • General household maintenance and odd jobs
  • End-of-tenancy and landlord repairs
  • Small repairs in shops, offices and managed units

Know what to look for

Jobs that suit a handyman enquiry

A list, not a single emergency

Several small items in one property are often more useful as one description than as separate guesses about which trade you need.

Doors and cupboards that no longer close

A dropped hinge, a loose handle or a door that catches on the floor is usually a fitting or timber problem. Say which room and whether the door is a fire door.

Storage that was never fitted

Flat-pack furniture, a single shelf or a curtain pole can be described with the wall type if you know it, and with the width if you have measured it.

A tenancy that is about to change

End-of-tenancy lists should say who can authorise the work and when the property can be entered. A long list still needs a look before a price.

Practical guidance

What a handyman visit does not include

Electrical work
Sockets, lighting circuits, consumer units and anything that needs testing or certification are electrical jobs. A handyman enquiry is not a substitute for an electrician.
Gas and plumbing
Boilers, gas appliances and pipework leaks belong on the heating and plumbing pages. If you smell gas, call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.
Anything that needs a qualified trade
If a small repair uncovers wiring, a leak or a structural problem, the visit stops at what can be done safely and the right trade is named. No registration numbers are published on this site because they have not been confirmed.
A price before the list is clear
A written quotation needs the address, the items and, where the fix is uncertain, a look at them. There is no published rate and no promise that someone will attend that day.

How it works

How a handyman & small repairs enquiry works

  1. Send the list

Name the property, the postcode and each job in a few words. Say whether it is a home, a rental or a small commercial unit, and who can give access.

  2. We separate the trades

Items that are genuinely small repairs stay on this enquiry. Anything electrical, gas, plumbing or structural is pointed to the right service instead of being folded in.

  3. A written quotation

You receive what is included. If a hinge turns out to be a rotten frame, that is discussed before extra work starts.

  4. The visit

The agreed items are done and anything that could not be finished is reported. A call is not a booking.

Questions

Handyman & small repairs: frequently asked questions

Can a handyman also do the electrics or the boiler?

No. Electrical, gas and plumbing work are separate services and have to be done by someone competent for that trade. Say if the list includes them so they are not assumed to be part of a handyman visit.

Do you cover Redhill, Reigate and Caterham?

Redhill and Reigate are the published commercial pages. Caterham is not a published guide. Include the postcode either way, and the job is only taken if it can actually be done.

Is this the same as property maintenance?

Property maintenance is the wider upkeep service, including gutters, snagging and planned lists. Handyman services are the smaller fitting and repair jobs. Use whichever matches the work, or mention both.

Can a landlord send an end-of-tenancy list?

Yes. Include who can approve the work and how access works. A list is not a fixed price, and nothing is offered as an emergency attendance.
